CROSS COUNTRY SKIING: CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING - This week's scheduled destination is Mansfield Outdoor Centre with 30 kilometres of groomed and trackset trail and another 10km dedicated to skate skiing. Mansfield is currently closed and the snow currently forecast for the remainder of the week may or may not be insufficient to justify its reopening so we may have to redirect elsewhere. Go to our skiing page for full details on how to sign up and don't forget to check the Hotline at 416-760-4191 on Friday to confirm the destination as trail fees differ from resort to resort.

Bicycle Maintenance Course - (Jan 14, 2009) The Continuing Education Program of the Toronto District School Board again offers its popular Bicycle Maintenance course for Winter 2009 beginning January 12 over nine weeks on Monday nights at Leaside High School at the corner of Bayview and Eglinton Avenues and January 14 over nine weeks on Wednesday Nights at Central Tech (Bloor and Bathurst area). Each course session runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The course fee is $170 (Seniors 60+ $85). Registration opens November 17 (fills up fast) through the TDSB web site or by calling the Continuing Education Office of the TDSB at 416-338-4000. The course conductor is Nani Reddy, a seasoned bicycle mechanic with a long association with the West End Bike Club and Bicycles Crossing Borders. This course is for those that are willing to get their hands dirty, from a beginner to the intermediate. Learn the mysteries of gears, all about brakes and gears. How all the different parts of a bike work, the differences between various models and types. Get to know the lingo and how to buy and replace various parts. Learn to overhaul your bicycles. Acquaint yourself about the different types of bicycles, to identify and troubleshoot problems. With a little practice you can do quite a lot. Get to know your horse, after all you ride it every day.
Wanakita Nordic Ski Weekend - (Feb 20-22, 2009) Sign up for TBN's third annual excursion to Wanakita, a YMCA Camp in Haliburton (northeast of Kinmount.) Price: Members, $130; non-members, $140. Includes two nights rustic accommodation (in varied settings, including dormitory rooms) and two breakfasts, two lunches and Saturday dinner. Friday there will be snacks out, check-in 7:00 p.m. and after. This is a popular trip that sold out quickly last year.
