1. Updated Map for July 19th Training Ride
Due to road closures in Newmarket, an updated map has been added to www.bikerally.org for this Saturday’s Finch-Keswick training ride.
2. Volunteers Needed for Pick Up Day – July 25th
On Friday, July 25th, 2008, we will be picking up the vehicles, supplies and equipment that are needed for the Bike Rally. While several members of the Steering Committee and Crews help out with the various tasks, we need extra volunteers to help out. There are various locations and times for pick ups and tasks throughout the day. Volunteers who can also drive would be extremely helpful. For more information and to offer your help, please contact Bike Rally Coordinator Jenni Willes at 416-506-8606 ext 631 or

3. Packing Day – Saturday, July 28th
Date
Saturday July 26th, 2008
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Location
Collège Français
100 Carlton St. (north side, at Jarvis St)
On the day before we depart for Montreal, all Participants must pack their camping gear and personal items into two Rubbermaid bins, which are then loaded onto the Roadie trucks. Click here to access a suggested Packing List.
Expect to spend about one hour to complete the necessary paperwork and packing.
Each Participant gets two bins the same size as those you saw at the BIG Meeting. Sleeping bags (and pillows, sheets and blankets if anyone takes them), tarps, air mattresses, costumes - everything - must fit in your two bins and the lids MUST close. A good way to really check out how much you are thinking of taking with you is to lay it out in the middle of a room - or try to pick it up all at once. Remember everything you bring must be carried back by you to the train from Montreal.
If you have not yet submitted your OHIP Card and medical form by Packing Day, you must hand them in to Lynn at the Medical table or you will not be permitted to continue the registration process. Click here to access the medical form.
For Crew members who will be driving, please ensure you have submitted a copy of your driver’s licence to your Crew Leader.
You can also hand in any last-minute pledges at this time.
On Packing Day, we provide all Riders and Crew the opportunity to contribute to the PWA Food Bank Program. The weekly food bank provides much needed food to an average of 350 people per month living with HIV/AIDS.
Most needed items are:
- Milk Powder,
- Cereal, Cereal bars,
- Peanut butter,
- Ensure / Boost supplements,
- Canned Vegetables,
- Canned Fruit,
- Protein bars,
- Any dry items in bulk packages will be portioned.
Finally, to help get everyone through the process, there will be a BBQ at Packing Day. All proceeds go to PWA!
4. Message from the Food Crew
We are pleased to once again have Canada Catering with us on the Bike Rally. The experience Bill and Cherie bring in feeding 450 people on the road is invaluable and their energy and humour make the tough job of the Food Crew so much easier. The nutritionist-approved menu is similar to last year’s, with some minor tweaks courtesy of feedback surveys. To have a peek, click here.
You will recall you were asked if you are vegetarian on your application form. Those forms are the basis for the numbers of vegetarian meals which will be provided. Please do not “become” vegetarian on the ride – it’s tempting with some of the savoury veggie dishes, but please be respectful of our true vegetarians.
If you have special dietary needs which simply cannot be met through the posted menu, please contact Food Crew Leader Todd Davies at

to discuss. While we do not want the menu to be a barrier for individuals to participate, we need to balance this with the extra work and expense required to create specialized meals.
We also ask that you be contientious when disposing of food and beverage waste. Separate containers will be set up for garbage, composting and for cans/bottles.
Finally, thank you in advance to all of the Rider Teams who will be assisting the Food Crew with meals. It truly makes a difference. See you in the food line!
5. Montreal Reception – SKY Bar
This year our Montreal Reception party returns to SKY Bar (1474 rue Ste-Catherine est). From 8:00 – 10:00 PM the Friends For Life Bike Rally has exclusive use of the 3rd floor and a VIP section on the roof. Come by for snacks, a few speeches and lots of kissing and hugging as we celebrate the amazing journey of the 10th Annual Friends For Life Bike Rally. Family and friends are welcome!
6. Green Tip #3
New this year, we are asking all Participants to bring a plate, along with cutlery and a cup which have been standard for a couple of years now. While we appreciate the donation of plastic, re-usable plates from Rubbermaid, we have found many folks leave the plates behind, causing more work for PWA to transport and dispose of them. In effort to reduce the amount of plastic we end up disposing of, we are asking each Participant to bring his or her own plate this year. This plate, like your cutlery and cup, will be used for breakfast and supper each day. Washing stations will be set up by our fabulous Food Crew.
