1. BIG Meeting Follow Up

BIG thanks to everyone who came out for the BIG Meeting and the BIG social at Pogue Mahones. Lots of great questions, lots of information sharing and lots of fun!

If you were not able to attend the meeting, you missed out on receiving an important document, the 2008 Bike Rally Handbook. We will try to have copies made available at upcoming Bike Rally events and if you want to pick some up, there are lots at the PWA Office. It is also available for downloading from www.bikerally.org.

Also, don’t miss out on this year’s Pride Toronto celebrations – the Bike Rally will have a presence in the Pride & Rembrance Run on Saturday, June 28th. You don’t have to fundraise to be in the run, and you don’t have to actually run! Come out and show your support. Registration is simple – just go to www.priderun.org and register for Team “PWA Friends For Life”. Contact Co-Chair Stefanie McQuaid at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information.

Then, join us in Pride Toronto’s Pride Parade where the Friends For Life Bike Rally will be showing its colours as the 2008 Honoured Group. We are looking for people to ride bicycles (in the 2008 jersey...) as well as to walk behind the float. If you are interested, please contact Walter Dimini at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Finally, the Bike Rally is pleased to work with Athlete’s Nation to provide athletic testing to Bike Rally participants. Athlete’s Nation (www.athletes-nation.com) offers a non invasive system to measure how an athlete’s physiological systems are functioning and how these systems impact the athlete’s strength, endurance and explosive power. Tests will be offered on Saturday, July 19th, 2008 and we are hoping to offer approximately 15-20 tests. We are also working with Athlete’s Nation to provide access to testing and information through the websites. If you are interested, please contact Co-Chair Stefanie McQuaid at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

2. Important Notice Regarding Medical Forms/OHIP Cards

All Riders and Crew must submit a completed Medical form and a photocopy of their OHIP card in order to participate in the Bike Rally. This information is kept strictly confidential by Lynn Muir RN, BscN, the Wellness Crew Leader, who travels with us along the road, and is to be used only in case of emergency. We ask for this information ahead of time so Lynn can compile a travelling file system for use on the Bike Rally. With more than 450 people participating, it takes some time to create!  At Packing Day, Lynn will have a checklist of Participants' forms and OHIP card photocopies submitted. If she does not have both pieces of information, you will not be able to depart with us.  Please submit your Medical form and OHIP card by 11:59pm Monday, June30th, 2008.

You can download the 2 page Medical form from the Downloads page at www.bikerally.org:

1. Save the file to your computer ("Desktop" would be easiest to find)
2. Open it in MS WORD and fill it in.
3. Save as BRMedicalForm08_YOURFIRSTNAME_YOURLASTNAME.doc
4. E-mail the completed form to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it by Monday, June 30th, 2008.

For your OHIP card, you can either scan it and e-mail it as a graphic (please name the file OHIP_YOURFIRSTNAME_YOURLASTNAME) OR mail it to PWA at 399 Church St. 2nd Floor by June 30th, 2008.

3. Call for Volunteers – Food and Wellness Crews

Our Wellness Team Needs YOU...or someone you know!  We are looking for some assistance recruiting Wellness professionals for this year's Bike Rally.  We already have a number of people signed up for the Wellness Crew, but we still need more! Specifically, we need Registered Massage Therapists and Paramedics.  If you or any friends or acquaintances might be able to volunteer or put us into contact with wellness professional associations, please let us know.  All inquiries and potential candidates should be directed to the Wellness Crew Lead, Lynn Muir, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We also have some room on the Food Crew. If you know anyone who might be interested in joining us on this amazing journey, please have him or her contact Food Crew Lead Todd Davies at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

4. The Roundup with the Rubbermaid Rustlers

“See you on Packing Day!”

Date
Saturday, July 26, 2008, 9 am to 1 pm

Location
Le Collège Français, 100 Carlton Street
(find us at the back, off Mutual Street)

Packing Day is scheduled on the day before we depart. It is the day ALL of us—cyclists and crew—fill in our final paperwork, pack our gear into Rubbermaid bins, and load them onto the roadie trucks, ready for departure the next day. Click here to read more.

5. Reminder – Fundraising Minimum – June 30th

We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who is working so hard on meeting the fundraising requirements. We are pleased to report that we have already raised over $560,000 and are constantly showing higher average totals than this point in previous years. GREAT WORK and keep it coming!!! Every day and every dollar brings us closer to our million-dollar goal and more funds to assist PWA provide much-needed services to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS.

All Riders should be well into their fundraising by this point in time. Remember that you must raise your minimum of $2,000 (partial ride) or $2,200 (full ride) by June 30th. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Team Leaders.

6. Green Tip #2

Take transit or ride your bike to the training rides. One of the biggest impacts you can personally have on the environment is to reduce your reliance on a car.

For your training rides - bike to the subway and take transit to the meeting point - as one of our riders pointed out - this has the added benefit of ensuring that you have all your riding gear before you leave
home...

Green Tip #1

Return your used, smelly, nylon cycling gear to Mountain Equipment Co-op – they have a bin there and will dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way.
