1. The Journey Begins

This year we continue the tradition of sending out informative e-News during the Friends For Life Bike Rally year. Bike Rally e-News are sent out to all Riders, Crew and our wonderful supporters and are full of updates and upcoming events as well as fundraising and training tips. We hope that they keep you informed and help to make the experience leading up to our departure day on Sunday, July 29th as rewarding as the ride itself. If you know people who would like to be added to the distribution list, have them sign up from the home page at www.bikerally.org.

We also wish to extend a great big THANK YOU to everyone who attended the Launch Party on February 13th. It was a huge success because of your dedication to this amazing event.

If you registered as a Rider at the Launch Party, don't forget you still need to finish up your registration online. You should have received an e-mail from the PWA office with your temporary User ID and password and a link to the Registration page. Please complete the registration process as soon as possible as you will not be able to get started on your fundraising until you are completely registered. New Riders can go ahead and click on "Register" to complete the process.

If you registered as a Rider at the Launch Party and have not received an e-mail, please let us know by sending a message to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Crew members who registered at the Launch Party will be contacted by Scott Cheslock, Special Events Coordinator at PWA after March 7th, 2008.

Welcome aboard to new and returning participants alike!

2. Your Pledge Page

To access your Pledge Page, click here. (You might want to add this page to your browser's Favourites for quick access), then "Log in" with your Pledge Page user name and password.

If you've forgotten your password, click on the "Forgot your password?" link directly underneath.

Once inside your Pledge Page, you will see "Fundraising Summary" which will show you how much you have raised. You can also "Solicit sponsors" and "View sponsors" on this page.

If you didn't do it when you first went through the registration process, you can personalize your Pledge Page by adding a photo of yourself and your own message to your sponsors. Again, while inside your Pledge Page, click on "My Pledge Page" in the left hand menu. Your picture should be a JPG or GIF file with maximum size of 500 x 400 pixels.

* Please encourage donors to donate online through your Pledge page as much as possible so they get their tax receipts right away by e-mail.

Don’t Forget!
If you would like to keep track of your cash and cheque pledges that you will be handing into the PWA office for processing, use the "Pledges collected in person" section of your Pledge Page. You will still need to fill in a pledge card for each one to hand in but once the pledges have been processed, they will show up as "verified" in your fundraising summary and your total will go up.

If you DO use this feature, please be sure to check the box on the pledge card that says "This pledge has already been entered online". This will speed up the confirmation process and your total will show the accurate result of your efforts much faster.

3. Training Rides and Team Assignments

For those of you who don't know, the Team Leader Committee has been very busy working behind the scenes these last few weeks. And we're quite sure that you have some questions, namely: When do training rides start? and Whose team am I on?

To answer the first question, training rides begin Saturday, APRIL 5TH, 2008. That's right, training starts a few short weeks from now. For those of you who haven't experienced the ride before, what can you expect?

  1. Helmets are absolutely mandatory. If you don't have a helmet, you cannot ride.
  2. The weather will probably be cool and/or rainy. So dress accordingly. Dress in layers and make sure that you are protected from the rain. Being wet AND cold is not fun!
  3. Search out and introduce yourself to your team leaders. It's important for you to know who your Team Leaders are, especially if you are new to the ride. The Team Leaders may be busy therefore the onus may be on you to make the first move.
  4. For updates on what rides are on which date, and what teams are assigned to sweep on a given ride, please check the www.bikerally.org for more details as they become available.

For the next question, whose team are you on? You should be hearing from your respective Team Leaders between the 10th and the 24th of March. You should be informed of your Team Leaders' names, e-mail addresses and phone numbers. So please be patient while we finalize the team assignments and give your Team Leaders a chance to get organized and introduce themselves to you.

We look forward to see you at the first training ride!!

Extra! Extra!

Green Tip #3

New this year, we are asking all Participants to bring a plate, along with cutlery and a cup which have been standard for a couple of years now. While we appreciate the donation of plastic, re-usable plates from Rubbermaid, we have found many folks leave the plates behind, causing more work for PWA to transport and dispose of them. In effort to reduce the amount of plastic we end up disposing of, we are asking each Participant to bring his or her own plate this year. This plate, like your cutlery and cup, will be used for breakfast and supper each day. Washing stations will be set up by our fabulous Food Crew.
