Michael Cress, Co-Chair
9th year on the Bike Rally
I first became involved with the bike rally in the summer of 2002 when I joined as a volunteer for the food crew. From talking to the riders, they really made a great impression on me, and I realized that what I thought would be impossible (me on a bike for 6 days to Montreal!) was actually possible. The next summer I was on a bike cycling to Montreal. It was a great experience and I became hooked.
I have been active on many committees on the bike rally since that first summer, and each iyear it just gets better and better. This will be my second year as Co-Chair of the Friends For Life Bike Rally and I am really excited to be working with and leading such a dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers. I look forward to 2010 and being part of reaching our goal to raise $1 million for the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation.

Wade Borges, Co-Chair
5th year on the Bike Rally
My first registration for the Friends for Life Bike Rally was back in February 2006. I had heard the stories of how great an experience this event is from friends who had done the ride before. I was unprepared however for the wonderful journey that was about to begin. Fast forward 5 years and I am proud to say that this year will be my first year as co chair. Over the next few months, the steering committee will focus on raising funds and awareness for the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation through the Bike Rally. I look forward to giving everything I can to the 2010 edition, and am thrilled to be partnered with such an amazing team. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 3rd year on the Bike Rally
I originally joined the Bike Rally in 08 to use up some vacation time, while helping a great organization and to challenge myself. I had so much fun my first year, I decided to come back and volunteer as well. This is my second year as co-chair for the Events and Social Committee. Feel free to send us your fantastic ideas so we can help make 2010 a year you won't forget. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

2nd year on the Bike Rally
Having joined the Friends for Life Bike Rally for the first time in 2009, the thought of riding across two provinces in Canada reminded me of a similar high school riding experience many years ago in Australia. I was excited!
It was humbling to have met so many people on the road who share the belief that we all have a responsibility to give of what we can to our community. It’s equally humbling to know that such an amazing event makes a huge impact on PWA’s ability to provide accessible, direct and practical support services to people living with HIV and AIDS.
It’s a privilege to be working with such a dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers all of whom are committed to delivering another great Bike Rally in 2010.

Todd Davies, Food Committee, Chair
8th year on the Bike Rally
Hi, I'm Todd Davies. This is my eighth year on the Friends for Life Bike Rally. The boyfriend got me hooked 8 years ago and now I think I have become a lifer! During the day, I am a mild-mannered secondary school teacher in the Durham Region, and therefore, have lots of time in the summer to give to a truly worthy cause. My other passions include volleyball, camping, movies, and alas, I am also an internet junkie. Good luck to everyone on the ride. Let's have a great time for a great cause! 3rd year on the Bike Rally
Riding a bike to Montreal was something I never saw myself doing. But a good friend encouraged me to do the ride and when when I finally rode into Montreal at the end of that fantastic week I felt such a wonderful sense of accomplishment and achievement. And when I thought about how I was part of an event that benefitted such an important organization that helps so many people in so many ways, I wanted to get involved even more!
I am looking forward to working with all the committees and the wonderful people who work so hard to put the bike rally together. Let's continue to have even more success with the ride in 2010!

Sherri Byer, Rider Development Committee, Co-Chair
7th year on the Rally
I initially did this ride because it is a fundraiser for PWA, and I wanted to be part of supporting that. But this is not just a bike trip or a fundraiser, it’s a life experience. I have done this beautiful week by bike, and I’ve done it as mechanical support, and what makes both experiences so worthwhile and brings me back again and again are the people – the interactions, the relationships, and the commitment to make something bigger happen than the sum of our parts. The Bike Rally has been a life-enriching experience for me, and I’m excited to be part of carrying it forward and making it better, along with the various teams of people who will make that happen this year, and all of you who will ride! Thank you for making this what it is – I’ll see you on the road! This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Robb Walker, Rider Development Committee, Co-Chair
4th year on the Bike Rally
A simple conversation with a friend about a life changing volunteer experience opened my eyes to PWA as an organization and my own phenomenal experience on the Bike Rally. The opportunity for a personal physical challenge, the bonds of friendship, and most important the chance to give back have altered my perception of the human spirit. Our Health is a gift and one we must never take for granted.
This is my 4th year on the Bike Rally been on the Rustler crew, a Rider, but no matter what you do the memories created and emotions felt are insurmountable. It’s an honour and privilege to be part of a group of dedicated committee members, PWA agency staff and the Bike Rally participants who truly understand. Although my career path is that of Sales for a large Hotel the time to volunteer and give back is a gift.

Bevan Friedman, Rider Recruitment Committee, Co-Chair
2nd year on the Bike Rally
After bumping into a friend in Montreal that had just completed the Bike Rally in 2008 and seeing the enthusiasm, and glowing energy of this person I decided I had to check this ride out. After not being on a bike since I was 17, the task ahead was daunting, but fulfilling at the same time. To my friend I have to say “Thank You”. This was an experience that changed and altered my life, thinking and perception. The opportunity to give something back while pursuing a personal physical challenge was an eye opening awesome exhilarating experience. One which I wish that I could share with everyone!
I take this opportunity to invite you to come join us on the ride this year – to experience what I and numerous others have and continue to experience!
This is my 2nd year on the ride and my first year on the steering committee. I am proud to be volunteering for an organization that helps people on every level and the dedication of the agency staff, volunteers at PWA and the Bike rally team is insurmountable.

Scott McEwen, Rider Recruitment Committee, Co-Chair
5th year on the Bike Rally
I was introduced to the ride five years ago by a very good friend. She knew what I was getting into. I didn’t. From my perspective, the chances of my riding 600 km to Montreal was about as likely as Michael leaving the Jacksons. Well, we know how that turned out. He left. I rode. And I haven’t looked back. I am thrilled to be back for my fifth year (fourth as a rider), my first year on the Steering Committee and my first year as a Team Leader. The experience, the cause, the ride and the connections I’ve made with all are a huge part of my life and I am excited to be in a position to do for other what was done for me when she took me under her wing. Here’s to an amazing journey for this, the12th year, of the ride! This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Hello there! Road safety is part cheerleader, part "safety officer" and I am very pleased to be working with all of you for Bike Rally #11 in 2009. I had a blast last year on crew and met many wonderful people,on the crew(s), on the bikes and on the sides of the road supporting... and who can pass up the opportunity to dress up like Halloween in July for 5 days in a row! The best way to sum up this event is that it is like summer camp for adults with a cause! In my employment life I work for Children's Services with the City of Toronto. Looking forward to a great year supporting and teaching about the great work of PWA. (bio) This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Over the past seven years I have made countless friends and shared sweat and tears as we worked to ensure the Friends For Life Bike Rally continued to show great results in support of the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation. With the success in 2008, I am pleased to be back this year as the Past Co-Chair, and to continue to provide my perspective as a non-rider and to work with the incredible individuals on the Steering Committee to produce an amazing event.
Through friends and fate, I have spent a large part of my life volunteering on behalf of people living and affected by HIV/AIDS. In addition to the Bike Rally, I am the Past President of the Board of Directors of Fife House, an innovative, client-focused provider of secure and affordable supportive housing and support services for persons living with HIV/AIDS and an occasional volunteer for the AIDS Committee of Toronto.
